Frank Zappa - You Are What You Is Outtakes (1980)

Halloween saw the surfacing of of the Orchestral Favorites outtakes, so I thought Christmas would be a good time for the next little outtakes surprise. A small portion of this has been seeded here before in inferior sound, but most of it should be new to the majority of FZ collectors.
Some of the tracks differ a lot in content from the released versions, while some of them may only differ in mix and mastering. You Are What You Is is a rather "radically" mastered album in terms of EQ, effects and even speed, and these versions may come across as more natural sounding in comparison, just like Crush All Boxes does to some.

Lineage: Maxell XLII cassette (2nd gen)->Denon DRM-800A->Creative SB Live->SoundForge (level adjustments, speed correction, editing, tracking)->FLAC Frontend

Thanks to Flambay for additional speed advice.
Thanks to pbuzby and drdork for additional analysis of the differences to the album.

01 The Meek (snippet)
02 Dumb All Over (no effect on FZ's voice, extended guitar solo)
03 Suicide Chump (end)
04 Jumbo Go Away (no Vai)
05 If Only She Woulda (snippet)
06 Doreen (slightly shorter than YAWYI version (but longer than CAB version) with different vocal chant at the end)
07 Teenage Wind (studio chat and count-off at start)
08 Harder Than Your Husband
09 You Are What You Is (snippet) (no Vai)
10 Dumb All Over (end)
11 Heavenly Bank Account
12 Suicide Chump (end)
13 Jumbo Go Away
14 If Only She Woulda (longer edit with more of the keyboard solo, and a few bars of vamp between the guitar solo and closing verse)
15 Drafted Again (lead guitar in "shot in the foxhole" section, instead of trumpet)
16 Teenage Wind (snippet)
17 Persona Non Grata (longer edit than Sinister Footwear 3rd Mvt, w/ Vai overdub and original live backing track)
18 Easy Meat solo (snippet)
19 Teenage Wind (w/FZ, Ike and Ray vocals, no Bob Harris or Steve Vai)
20 Harder Than Your Husband (fewer layers of backing vocals)
21 You Are What You Is (different guitar at the beginning, none of that "woo woo-hoooh" between the lyrics lines)
22 Mudd Club (no effect on FZ's voice in the spoken mid-section)
23 The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing (doesn't have the syndrum overdubs between lines at the start)
24 Dumb All Over (no effect on FZ's voice)
25 If Only She Woulda (end) (doesn't have the extra spoken parts from the album version)
26 Drafted Again (w/FZ vocals, no Ahmet or Moon, long ending)
27 Fine Girl (drum machine)

Frank Zappa On A Reggae Trip (1979-88)

I made a complication of some of Frank Zappa's finest songs in reggae style.
When Zappa entered the 80's of the twentieth century he began to integrate reggae influences in his recordings and performances, explaining it as backwards played third world music. Yes, if Zappa played reggae it was still reggae.

Captain Beefheart-en-Accords - Live @ Clos de la Perouse Rochefort France (27.08.2011)

Well, the concept of the Rochefort-en Accords festival is to invite a bunch (this time 25+) of musicians and ask them if they want to play together.
Off course, then there is no such thing as a band name, that is why I choose to anounce it as Captain Beefheart-en-Accords.

Personnel this time:

Eric Drew Feldman - keyboards
Moris Tepper - guitar
Nicolas Mingot - guitar
Innes Sibun - guitar
Serge Teyssot-Gay - guitar
Peter 'Doot' Brunelli - bass
Leonard Le Cloarec - saxophone
Nicolas Genest - trumpet

Frank Zappa - A Pioneer of the Future of Music (2007) [DVD]

Frank Zappa
"A Pioneer of the Future of Music"
2007 documentary
broadcast on Dutch TV - VPRO - April, 2007

This version has user-friendly chaptering and selection menus with a lot of the interview bits directly selectable. Also the second half of the earlier seed was slightly out of synch. A two frame delay of the audio made a definite improvement. No re-encoding was done to the video or audio of the earlier seed.

Other details of this entertaining documentary:

There are a lot of bits of Frank speaking that are primarily taken from the 1971 VPRO documentary by Rudolf Kiers (footage recorded at Frank's home in 1970 and first broadcast February 11, 1971). It's all a very tight collage of old and new images and interviews.

New chapter list - more descriptive here than the selection menu allowed for it to fit onto a single screen:

1. Intro
2. Growing up
3. Denny Walley (new interview material and also live performance footage of Denny Walley with FZ edited together with Denny Walley playing solo guitar during a recent interview)
4. Composition
5. early Mothers (with new Elliot Ingber and Gail Zappa interview material)
6. "I think that progress is not possible without deviation" (FZ talks - from 1971 VPRO ducumentary)
7. Humor (with new Hal Wexler interview material)
8. Revolution (FZ talk from 1971 VPRO documentary and new Gail interview material)
9. Gail talks about The NYC Garrick Theater era
10. Footage from unknown ('70's?) date about directing the audience with hand signal improvisation (black and white)
11. The Uncle Meat file (with new Hal Wexler interview material)
12. The G.T.O.s (with new interview material)
13. Ian Underwood (with new interview material)
14. Call Any Vegetable video segment Fillmore West November 6, 1970 (from 1971 VPRO ducumentary)
15. George Duke (with new interview material)
16. The 200 Motels film
17. Frank The workoholic (new George Duke interview material)
18. part 1 closing credits
19. part 2 opening
20. George Duke (with new interview material)
21. Napoleon Murphy Brock (with new interview material)
22. Tom and Bruce Fowler (with new interview material - also Malcolm McNabb)
23. Rhythm
24. The Black Page (with new Dweezil Zappa and Terry Bozzio interview material and also live Zappa Plays Zappa footage)
25. Steve Vai (with new interview material, live with Zappa Plays Zappa and solo guitar during recent interview)
26. Pierre Boulez & Ensemble Modern (new interview material and live performance footage)
27. 1992 sessions (with new Gail Zappa interview material)
28. 1963 "Steve Allen" TV show (black and white)
29. Dweezil Zappa (new interview material and Zappa Plays Zappa footage)
30. final credits
total running time: 106 minutes

VIDEO_TS fileset from previous Dime seed > Cinematize (export as elementary streams) > DVD Studio Pro (audio/video synch adjustment plus new chaptering and title/selection menus) > new VIDEO_TS fileset (3.58 gig). md5 file created with xACT.

Thanks to Drummerdaan for the first post of this on Dime! It was originally transferred to DVD by him and is not one of the torrents of this show that was originally uploaded on the Zappateers site. I doubt than another copy of this will be able to improve on the excellent sound and video quality, especially after fine tuning the synch.

Other info from Drummerdaan's post:

This documentary has new interviews edited together with earlier documentary material and live performance videos. There is footage of Frank writing, thinking and talking about his ideas and work and various footage of Frank performing with the band.

7. Tell Me You Love Me
8. Yo' Mama
They have also been issued as the first 8 tracks on In New York & San Francisco.
The Project-Obejct bootleg claims to be "phase two of Conceptual Continuity". It has a cover very similar to the Conceptual Continuity bootleg, and may have been made by the same people, but phase two of that bootleg is actually issued as Marvellous Stunner. Project-Object was released in 1980 (pressed in 3200 copies) and re-released on CD in 1991. The cover is a black & white insert. The disc has "Project Object" on it; the cover has "Project-Object". When Zappa wrote the phrase himself, he would write it "Project/Object".
The Moe's Vacation picture LP has the same track list as Project-Object. It's a colour picture LP, with a picture of a smiling Zappa from the You Are What You Is photo session. It says "Printed in Mexico" and "Promotional copy not for sale". It was pressed on poor-quality vinyl, which gets scratchy.
Guitar Player - Live 1978 has tracks 1-8 of Peepers Part 1 and 1-3 of Parts 2 & 3; 12 tracks in all ("Deathless Horsie" to "Conehead"). Tracks 1 and 11 listed as "instrumental" only. Front cover has a picture of Zappa standing with the Hendrix Strat.
* The "instrumental" track from these bootlegs is some kind of piano/keyboard solo from "A Pound for a Brown on the Bus", some of which is probably compsed by Peter Wolf.
* "Moe's Vacation" track is the early stages of "Mo & Herb's Vacation", a shorter version for drums, bass and marimba (exquisite!).
* "I Have Been in You" a long intro like the one on Stage #6, "Is This Guy Kidding or What".
* "Little House I Used to Live In" is the orchestrated intro from "Little House I Used to Live in" followed by a vocal improvisation by Tommy Mars, a bit of a drum solo and a fade-out.
